Telling Time to the Hour Lesson

Do you know what time it is? Is it 1 o’clock? 2 o’clock? Or maybe 3 o’clock? Telling Time to the hour can be pretty confusing at first, but once you know how to determine it, it will be as easy as 1, 2, 3! The first step to tell the time by the hour is to know the parts of a clock. If you have a clock in your home or on your phone, you will notice that there’s a long and shorthand, in some clocks, there is another thin hand but that would be less of our concern for now. The long hand is called a minute hand and the shorthand is called an hour hand, and if you do notice the thin hand on your clock, it is called a second hand. In clocks, the numbers 1 through 12 will never go missing as it is where you look when telling the time, those numbers are called the hour numbers. Between those hour numbers, you will also spot 4 small and thin lines which represent the minute lines.
Now that you know the parts of a clock, we can now identify and tell the time to the hour. When you look at your clock, the shorthand would be pointing to a number, same with the longhand. To determine what hour it is, the hour hand should be pointing at a number and the minute hand is pointing at the number 12. The hour hand can point in any number on the clock, but the minute hand should only point to 12. For example, the hour hand could be pointing at 4 while the minute hand is pointing at 12, hence we can tell that the time is 4 o’clock. As long as the minute hand is on number 12, we will be able to tell the exact hour it is by looking at the shorthand no matter what number it is pointing to.
